More About Ozzie
More information about Ozzie
It's easy to get to know me. I'm a friendly and open person. When you've made it through all the pages of my site, visited my photo album, signed the guest book and read
my blog you'll probably know me pretty well. You'll probably be pretty familiar with my cat Ozzie too.
I'd like to give you a little information about my family of origin. I have five sisters
and one brother. (his picture is on the site somewhere) My dad was in the Army so we were typical Army brats who moved
around a lot. I didn't like that very well but some of my sibblings liked it so much that they married into the military
themselves.
My parents are both deceased now. Dealing with the deaths of my parents has been a
huge factor in the changes to my personality over the past decade. Both of my parents suffered from Alzheimer's
disease.
Warding Off Alzheimer's
During the times that my parents were ill, I learned a lot about the disease and attended support groups. I still
have a T-shirt that I received for walking in an event to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association. I pray that someday
a cure is found. To date, none of my sibblings have symptoms of the disease.
I have made it my goal to spend as much time as I can to actively learn new things in an effort to keep my mind working.
I have enjoyed learning as much as I can about using a computer. I still have a long way to go. I've debated a lot about whether
or not to get tested for the disease. I haven't done so yet. I'm not certain if I want to know.
I would enjoy hearing from others who who have Alzheimer's in their family history. In fact, I would enjoy hearing from
any of you. Ask me questions or share a part of your life with me. I was once an administrator and moderator at Psych Central
Forums and enjoy interacting with others. You can email me at: ozzieblackcat@yahoo.com
*A Good Read
I have always enjoyed poems and tales by Edgar Allan Poe. I came across The
Black Cat again the other day and decided to share it with you. I wonder if anyone has ever made a movie based on this
story. You'll find a link to the story below. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
"The Black Cat" (word doc.)
Elephants
I've told you a little about myself, my family and my cat, Ozzie. Now I'll tell
you a little about my collection of elephants.
I believe that my love of anything about elephants came as a result of seeing a movie when
I was a kid. The movie was, "Elephant Walk" and it starred Elizabeth Taylor who I thought was beautiful. However,
the elephants were the real stars of the movie. They left a huge impression
on me.
About 30 years ago I saw an amazing elephant ceramic at a yard sale. It was of three
elephants..... mother and two young. That was the first elephant item I ever purchased. Since then my collection
has grown and grown. The last time my son counted, I had well over 300 elephant items ranging from figurines to jewelry
to clothing and carvings.
